Jake Matthews and his camp have confirmed they intend to appeal his loss to Neil Magny at UFC Perth following a disputed referee call.
Late in the first round, Matthews had Magny locked in a guillotine choke. With just one second remaining, referee Jim Perdios appeared to stop the fight, believing Magny was unconscious. Magny immediately protested.
Perdios then reversed himself, saying he had intervened only to end the round — not to stop the fight — despite video evidence suggesting otherwise and no instant review being used.
Matthews’ team argues that the fight should never have been resumed after the apparent stoppage and hopes the result will be changed to a No Contest.
In the end, Magny rallied in round three and submitted Matthews via D’arce choke, handing Matthews a loss and snapping his three-fight win streak.
A UFC executive, Dave Shaw, commented that the situation was “strange,” noting that Magny’s arm had looked limp at one point, possibly prompting the ref’s initial reaction.
